A city electric bike gets you across town faster and with far less effort than a regular bike, while staying easy to live with every day - light enough to handle, comfortable in traffic and ready for the daily commute. Our range covers every urban need: comfortable step-through commuters for everyday riding, folding models for small flats and mixed public-transport trips, and lightweight urban e-bikes built for smooth city streets. Motor output sits in the practical city range of about 250 to 500 W, which is plenty for flat town riding, gentle rises and stop-start traffic.

City electric bike specifications - what they mean

Understanding a few key numbers makes it easy to pick the right city electric bike for your commute:

  • Motor power and torque - power (W) drives acceleration and top speed, while torque (Nm) is the pulling force that gets you moving from a standstill and up gentle rises. For flat city riding a 250 to 500 W motor is plenty; you only need more for steep hills, heavy loads or rough ground - for that, see our mountain e-bikes.
  • Battery and real-world range - the battery's energy is measured in watt-hours (voltage multiplied by capacity); the higher the Wh, the further you go. Manufacturer range figures are measured in ideal conditions, so a realistic city range is usually 60 to 80% of the quoted number and depends on your weight, the assist level, wind and temperature. For most commutes a mid-size battery comfortably covers several days of riding between charges.
  • Step-through frame - a low step-through frame lets you get on and off without swinging a leg over a high crossbar, which is ideal in everyday clothes, with a bag, or when you stop often at lights. It also makes the bike easy to share between riders of different heights.
  • Fenders, rack and lights - a true commuter electric bike arrives ready for daily use: full fenders keep road spray off you and your clothes, a rear rack carries panniers or a bag, and integrated front and rear lights keep you visible in traffic and after dark. These built-in details save you buying and fitting extras later.
  • Comfortable tyres - moderately wide city tyres smooth out cobbles, tram tracks and kerbs while still rolling easily on tarmac, so you get comfort without the drag of heavy off-road treads. If you ride a lot on snow, sand or loose trails, wider fatbike tyres suit that better.
  • Weight and removable battery - an electric bike is heavier than a regular one because of the motor and battery, which matters if you carry it up stairs or store it in a flat. Many city models have a lockable, removable battery so you can charge it indoors and lift less weight; a folding model is easier still to store and carry.

Which model is right for you?

  • Daily commuting and errands: a comfortable step-through city e-bike with fenders, a rack and lights already fitted, so it is ready to ride to work or the shops straight out of the box.
  • Small flats or combining with public transport: a compact folding urban e-bike that tucks into a car boot, a lift or a hallway - see our foldable e-bikes.
  • Comfort and stability: an upright riding position, a low step-through frame and cushioned tyres suit riders who want a relaxed, confident bike for gentle city trips.
  • Hills, rougher ground or year-round riding: if your route leaves the smooth city streets, a more powerful bike or wider tyres will serve you better - see our mountain e-bikes and fatbikes.

A city electric bike is an urban e-bike built for smooth town streets rather than trails - typically an upright riding position, a low step-through frame, comfortable tyres and everyday extras like fenders, a rack and lights. A motor of around 250 to 500 W assists your pedalling, so commuting and errands take less effort and less time.
Real-world range is usually 60 to 80% of the manufacturer's figure and depends on your weight, the assist level, wind and temperature. City models typically cover a comfortable commute for several days between charges; models with a larger battery go further. The exact battery size is listed on each product.
An e-bike with up to 250 W of assist and a limit of 25 km/h counts as a normal bicycle - no registration or licence is required, and insurance is optional though sensible. A more powerful or faster model falls into the moped class, which must be registered and insured. Full motor specs are on each product page.
Yes. The motor only assists your pedalling, so you can ride with it switched off just like a regular bike. It will feel a little heavier because of the motor and battery, but it rides normally and you can save the charge for hills or the way home.
Many city models have a lockable, removable battery built into the frame, so you can take it out and charge it at home or in the office without moving the whole bike - handy if you store the bike in a shed or a communal hallway. Whether a specific model has a removable battery is noted in its product details.
For gentle town rises a 250 to 500 W city bike handles them fine. For steep or sustained climbs and rougher ground, a more powerful bike is a better fit - see our mountain e-bikes.
Most city e-bikes handle light rain and wet roads, and fenders keep the spray off you, but avoid deep water and never use a pressure washer on the bike. Keep the battery contacts and charging port dry, and wipe the bike down after a wet ride.
Yes, though cold temporarily reduces battery capacity and braking distances grow on ice. Store the battery indoors at around 30 to 60% charge when the bike is not in use, and fit tyres with more grip for winter riding.
A step-through frame has a low top tube, so you step through rather than swinging a leg over a high crossbar. It makes getting on and off easy in everyday clothes, with a bag, or when you stop often in traffic, and it suits riders of different heights - which is why it is popular for city commuting.
Choose a city e-bike for the most comfortable everyday ride, and a folding model if storage space or combining with public transport matters most. Compare the compact options in our foldable e-bikes collection.
It depends on your priorities - comfort, storage space, range or price. Compare every model type side by side in the full electric bikes range to find the right fit.
Every city electric bike is covered by the official distributor warranty, with service and spare parts available in-house here in Estonia. The exact warranty length depends on the model and is shown on each product page. See the full warranty terms.
